Caddisflies are a type of aquatic insect that spend their juvenile stage as larvae in freshwater creeks, streams, and rivers. By producing silk they create their own homes by attaching various objects in their environment together. These objects could be rocks, sticks, or anything else the caddisfly larvae deems suitable. This illustration takes a closer look at the chemical structure that creates this strong waterproof silk.
