Pen & Ink, Scratchboard Male southern cassowaries are careful parents, watching over the nest and protecting the young after they hatch. This illustration was created to depict this parental behavior, as well as the forest habitat of these birds. Scratchboard was used in order to effectively depict the highlights of the cassowary’s black feathers with white strokes against black ink.
