Project Description
Parrot Waxcap (Gliophorus psittacinus)
Kylene Gilmore
Watercolor
Every year I anxiously anticipate the rainy season for my mushroom friends to start popping up, excited to see what new mushroom I will be lucky enough to see that year. I found this Parrot Waxcap (Gliophorus psittacinus) the first season I ever tried my hand at mushroom hunting, and what a delight it was. This waxy cap can vary in color depending on its stage in life, from green to yellow to grey to even splashes of pink. It’s easy to identify due to its bright colors and viscus cap. Some field guides list that this mushroom is edible, others as inedible, and although it might not make you terribly ill, it’s probably tasteless, so better left alone.
