Monarch & Mistflower (Danaus plexippus, Conoclinium coelestinum)

Amanda Riley

Photoshop, Watercolor
A Monarch butterfly, Danaus plexippus, feeds on Blue Mistflower, Conoclinium coelestinum, a common flower in the eastern United States and a favorite among pollinators. This painting is based on a sighting in south Florida, where, uniquely, many Monarchs are year-long residents and do not migrate.
