Project Description
Trinidad Coastline
Josh Overington
Pen & Ink, Gouache
This piece is the culmination of studying the artist Moebius’ style and melding his style with mine. I absolutely adore this piece and am going to continue using this style in the future. The vibrant colors and use of both gradients and stratified colors create a lot of perspective. The crisp pen lines on top are just the icing on the cake that really helps the colors pop and hides some of my sloppier painting areas. This style is my new favorite for field sketching and I am hoping I will be able to recreate it on a much larger scale with projects coming up (like possible murals). The coolest moment for me during this project was when I realized I was no longer just imitating Moebius but rather embodying a new style that combined his art and mine.
