What Causes Coral to Bleach

Scenes of the Sea

Watercolor
The coral reefs around the world have been dying. There are some environmental factors that are causing corals to bleach, such as water temperatures rising and human generated pollution. When coral are stressed, they expel their zooplankton which makes them lose their color causing them to appear bleached. This does not mean that the coral are dead, however it does mean the coral are weaker and are more prone to diseases. If the water conditions do not improve, the coral ends up dying.
