Scratchboard, Pen & Ink, Graphite In creating a scratchboard piece, I wanted subject matter that I thought would look strong in just black & white and didn’t need color to tell the story. I felt this bear image could accomplish that. So with black India Ink and scratching tools, I tried to depict the starkness of the environment, the cold weather, the icy conditions, and the seemingly somber mood of the bear.
