Dorsal view of a very long snouted female acorn weevil (Curculio glandium). This illustration includes a lateral view of the head to demonstrate the curvature and hooked tips of the beetle’s snout (rostrum). This elongated snout is essential for piercing an acorn’s hull. After drilling a hole into an acorn, a female will deposit her eggs inside with an ovipositor. After the eggs hatch, the acorn provides shelter and nourishment to the beetle larvae.
