Project Description
Elegant Grasshopper (Zonocerus elegans)
Keely Davies
Colored Pencil, Duralene/Dura-lar
What crazy colors! The vibrant colors and patterning of the elegant grasshopper (Zonocerus elegans) are an example of aposematic coloration, which is a warning to predators that this organism is toxic. This insect does not produce toxins on its own and derives its toxicity from the poisonous plants in its diet.
