Project Description
Deep Below the Sea
Josh Overington
Watercolor, Gourache
This piece pushed my attention to detail and realistic painting abilities. I enjoyed painting the subject matter and the color contrasts between the oranges and blues. The magazines are from the late 1980s and are from a stack I found at a local antique shop. The painting is done almost entirely in gouache and with the instruction to paint with gouache as an opaque medium rather than just using it like watercolor. That means rather than building up layers I mixed my paint to be the final color I wanted and filled the pieces accordingly. This was a super difficult challenge! Mixing paints to be the right colors first try is no easy task but I am happy with how most of them came out.
