Project Description

Celebrating iridescence (Haliotis sp.)

Sophie Wood Brinker

Duralene/Dura-lar, Colored Pencil
It’s become a rare occurrence to stumble upon an intact abalone shell during a visit to the beach. These beautiful mollusks graze on kelp and algae, clearing space for a multitude of diverse species to grow. They are essential for the health of kelp forests. This piece is an attempt to celebrate the importance of these creatures, and hopefully communicate their striking iridescence.
